Psalm 20 – Praying the Psalms Project

This Psalm comes from a very different voice.  It is almost as if David is praying for us, the readers.  Several commentaries state that David is praying for himself and the coming Kings of Israel.

I feel that includes us, since we are joint heirs with Christ and He is the King of Kings.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.  Romans 8: 16-18

Psalm 20

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
    may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May he send you help from the sanctuary
    and grant you support from Zion.
May he remember all your sacrifices
    and accept your burnt offerings.
May he give you the desire of your heart
    and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy over your victory
    and lift up our banners in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.

Now this I know:
    The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
    with the victorious power of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall,
    but we rise up and stand firm.
Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us when we call!

David’s Prayer over you –

 May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
    may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

– Amen

Your Prayer –

 Lord – I know this…

You give victory to your anointed.

You hear and answer me from your heavenly sanctuary

In Your right hand is victorious power

Some trust in the things of this world.

I choose to place my trust in You

Those who trust in the things of this world will fall.

I will rise up and stand firm.

Lord I ask for victories in my life.

You are the King who hears me when I call – Amen

Psalm 11 – Praying the Psalms Project

Many days I wonder if justice will ever come.  I wonder if God sees.  I am reminded today that His Light illuminates the darkness, showing all things.  Even what is hidden in our hearts.

Psalm 11

For the director of music. Of David.

In the Lord I take refuge.
    How then can you say to me:
    “Flee like a bird to your mountain.
For look, the wicked bend their bows;
    they set their arrows against the strings
to shoot from the shadows
    at the upright in heart.
When the foundations are being destroyed,
    what can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in his holy temple;
    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth;
    his eyes examine them.
The Lord examines the righteous,
    but the wicked, those who love violence,
    he hates with a passion.
On the wicked he will rain
    fiery coals and burning sulfur;
    a scorching wind will be their lot.

For the Lord is righteous,
    he loves justice;
    the upright will see his face.

Psalm 11

As you pray along today, I encourage you.  Pray out loud.

Hearing your own voice

Declare the very Word of God

Is a powerful thing

Father, How often I am tempted  to run to a safe place each time adversity comes my way.

I thank you that I don’t have to run far –

You are my refuge – my safe place- my mighty mountain

I am reminded that, even today, the wicked have their arrows pointed at those who are upright in heart.

When the ground underneath me is quaking – Where should I go?  What should I do?

You Lord, are holy, You sit upon Your Holy Throne.

You are not far – You see every person on this earth – Your eyes examine us all.

You see the ones in right standing with You.

You see the wicked, the ones who love violence.  For those you have a hateful passion.

On the wicked, You will rain coals of fire and burning sulfur.  Their reward will be a scorching wind.

You are righteous, Lord.  You love Justice

Those who are upright in their hearts, one day we will see You face to face.  – Amen

Praying the Psalms Project Psalm 6

Oh David, the lamenting, when will it stop?  Ever feel that way?  You just can’t remember a good day.

We all have days, where we are at the end of ourselves.  There is nothing more we can do or say, we simply weep.  I feel that when I read this Psalm, that David was simply at the end of himself.

While we try to avoid that place, I believe that the Lord leads us there.  This is where we let go and He holds on.

We Fail – He Fails Not

Un-Named But Not Un-Loved (1)

Psalm 6

For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by an eight-stringed instrument

O Lord, don’t rebuke me in your anger
    or discipline me in your rage.
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.
    Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
I am sick at heart.
    How long, O Lord, until you restore me?

Return, O Lord, and rescue me.
    Save me because of your unfailing love.
For the dead do not remember you.
    Who can praise you from the grave?

I am worn out from sobbing.
    All night I flood my bed with weeping,
    drenching it with my tears.
My vision is blurred by grief;
    my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.

Go away, all you who do evil,
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
    the Lord will answer my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be disgraced and terrified.
    May they suddenly turn back in shame.

Father,  I never want to anger You, but I am sure I do.  You see all of me, every action, every word, every thought.  Please take it easy on me when you bring correction.

There will be many days that I am weak, exhausted and sick at heart.  I wait for You to restore me.

As long as I have breath in my lungs, I will praise You.

Rescue me Lord.  I know Your love will never fail me, even when I feel like a failure.

You see me on the days that I am at the end of myself.  My eyes swollen from crying, until I can barely see.

I want to shut myself away from all the evil in this world, but I choose not to.  Why?

For You

 Hear me when I cry

 Listen when I pray

 Answer when I call

You help me to overcome my enemies, who or whatever they may be.  You send them running.

Thank you Lord for Your unfailing love toward me.

Amen and Amen
