A Love for Others

A Love for Others

One summer at church camp my boys met a young lady, and for weeks after returning home all I heard about was Britney.   I had never seen my boys so taken with someone.

The camp theme that summer had been Standing in the Gap Through Prayer.  Every evening during chapel the children had the opportunity to pray for one another’s needs.

They boys told me about Britney’s request for her family.  Her sister, who had strayed far from her family, had found herself pregnant and in the grip of addiction. Then I understood what was going on. The boy’s hearts had been expended through prayer.

They had never been faced with a prayer request as monumental as this and they took it very seriously. Faithfully they prayed for Britney’s sister and her baby.  It was as if they were treading on holy ground during those daily prayers. Never knowing how things would all turn out yet trusting in a God who they knew could intervene.

Prayer was the place where their love grew for their dear friend and her family.  Nothing opens a heart to love others quite like prayer does.  Suddenly their eyes were off themselves and set on the needs of another.

Let’s Pray!

For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.  Psalm 117:12

Praise the Lord for His Great Love for you.

And live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2

Maybe you haven’t been living a life of love, confess that to the Lord today.

Give Thanks

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.  Ephesians 1:3-5

In love you were adopted by Christ, throw up your hands and give thanks today.

Putting Feet to Our Prayers

As prayer requests become known to you share them with your children, big and small. Take a few minutes each day and pray for others together.

A Love for God’s Word

Pat was a dear and much older friend. I admired her passion for scripture and how she applied it to her life.
One afternoon while she and I were chatting, she shared with me how important it is that we not only read the Word of God, but that we hide His Word in our hearts.
That doesn’t only consist of memorizing, but meditating upon it, letting it stir around in our hearts and minds.
Pat found out this truth in a very critical way several years ago. She suffered a massive heart attack and was in the hospital for several months recovering.
During her first month she did not have the ability to speak or to read. That meant that she could not find comfort in reading her Bible that laid on the stand nearby. In frustration she cried out to the Lord.
As she lay in her bed crying, the Lord began to bring scriptures to her mind, scriptures that she had hidden in her heart years ago. This brought her great comfort during those difficult days.
The Word of God is alive, powerful and life changing. Even Jesus when tempted would refer to God’s Word saying, “It is written…”
When we pray that God gives our children a love for His word them to treasure it and hide it in their hearts, it will be there when they reach for it.
Let’s Pray
The unfolding of Your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130
Can you remember a time when God’s Word brought light into your darkness? Give Him praise for that today.
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:21
Pause and purpose to get rid yourself of dirty sin. (Don’t worry we’ve all got it) Then trust that The Word, Jesus, planted in you, can and will save you.
Give Thanks
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalm: 119:105
Thank God for time in you life when His Word was a light to your path.

Put Feet to Your Prayers
Introduce your child to a new Bible verse every week. Print out three copies of the verse and place place them strategically around the house. Make a point to talk about the verse each day. By the end of the week it will be hidden in their hearts and yours!
