Tonight, the Love Candle. There is no love greater. ❤️ We don’t have to earn it and we certainly don’t deserve it, yet He gave it. All of his love wrapped as a gift for us, Jesus!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I wonder when it will happen – When will God’s people grow up?

When will we LOVE?

When will we stay CALM?

With everything going on in our world I have formed many opinions.  Many opinions I would love to share, better yet shout from the rooftops.  Yet these verses keep ringing in my ears.

The Message captures them beautifully –

1 Thessalonians 4:10-12 The Message (MSG)

9-10 Regarding life together and getting along with each other, you don’t need me to tell you what to do. You’re God-taught in these matters. Just love one another! You’re already good at it; your friends all over the province of Macedonia are the evidence. Keep it up; get better and better at it.

11-12 Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You’ve heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts. We want you living in a way that will command the respect of outsiders, not lying around sponging off your friends.

Regarding life together and getting along with each other, you don’t need me to tell you what to do. You’re God-taught in these matters. Just love one another!

For a moment let’s just think of the thoughts and time wasted in writing those scathing or passive aggressive social media posts.

I have yet to read a social media post that has changed my life. Have you?

Only the living breathing Word of God can accomplish change.

I believe that Paul’s words were reminding this young church in Thessalonica to grow-up.

His words still call out to us today –

  • Get along with one another
  • Love one another
  • You already know this – God has already shown you
  • I know you can do it – I have seen you do it before.
  • Stay calm – don’t allow yourself to get all worked up
  • Mind your own business.
  • Minding your own business is easy  – when you are hard at work
  • A reminder never hurts
  • You will have the respect of those who do not believe,  by the way you live your life out
  • Don’t be lazy and live off of others – get yourself to work, loving and serving

Let these words ring in your ears, as they have in mine,  my friends.  It’s time to grow-up.

If we can grab a hold of them and live them out, we will see the world around us begin to change.

Psalm 21 – Praying the Psalms Project

We all have times in our life when we are overwhelmed and feel plain old weak.  We feel like we are not winning at life and there is defeat at every door.  It seems as if this world in which we live is full of evil and we just cannot see the good.

David reminds us in this Psalm that –

We are not strong.  He is.

We are not victorious.  He Is

We are not joyful.  He is.

The great news-  He is and He Lives in us, He hears us and He knows our heart.

He is our strength, our joy, He equips us and causes us to become victorious!

Psalm 21

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

The king rejoices in your strength, Lord.
    How great is his joy in the victories you give!

You have granted him his heart’s desire
    and have not withheld the request of his lips.
You came to greet him with rich blessings
    and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.
He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
    length of days, for ever and ever.
Through the victories you gave, his glory is great;
    you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.
Surely you have granted him unending blessings
    and made him glad with the joy of your presence.
For the king trusts in the Lord;
    through the unfailing love of the Most High
    he will not be shaken.

Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies;
    your right hand will seize your foes.
When you appear for battle,
    you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and his fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
    their posterity from mankind.
11 Though they plot evil against you
    and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.
12 You will make them turn their backs
    when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13 Be exalted in your strength, Lord;
    we will sing and praise your might.

I rejoice in Your strength Lord.

When You give me victories, I am filled with joy.

You grant me my heart’s desires – you listen to my requests.

You have given me many blessings – I feel like queen.

You gave me my life, each and every day.

In my victories, you are glorified, Lord.

I am blessed to be part of your Royal Family.

Your blessings are unending.  In Your presence I am glad.

I trust in You and Your unfailing love.

Inside Your love I cannot be shaken.

Your Hand grasps Your enemies, Lord.

When You show up for battle – you are like a blazing furnace.

You swallow Your enemies with fire.

I am so angry at the evil in the world, Lord.

They plot and plan wicked schemes.

You see them.

You cause them to turn their backs and You draw Your bow.

Lord, I exalt You!  You are mighty in strength.

I will sing Your praise!   – Amen

Psalm 17 – Praying the Psalms Project

We can have times in life where we are misunderstood – defeated – scared and lonely.   When we feel no one is for us and everyone is against us.  The lion circles us, isolating us.

Sometimes it is our own fault, sometimes not. Regardless, we feel the pain.

Our God’s love is so big, so very, very big.  When we call – He hears.  He examines our hearts and sees our true motives and plans.  He spreads His wings and we can snuggle in beside Him, where He nurtures and instructs us.  There is no place I’d rather be.  How about you?

Psalm 17

A prayer of David.

Hear me, Lord, my plea is just;
    listen to my cry.
Hear my prayer—
    it does not rise from deceitful lips.
Let my vindication come from you;
    may your eyes see what is right.

Though you probe my heart,
    though you examine me at night and test me,
you will find that I have planned no evil;
    my mouth has not transgressed.
Though people tried to bribe me,
    I have kept myself from the ways of the violent
    through what your lips have commanded.
My steps have held to your paths;
    my feet have not stumbled.

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
    turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show me the wonders of your great love,
    you who save by your right hand
    those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
    hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me.

10 They close up their callous hearts,
    and their mouths speak with arrogance.
11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me,
    with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion hungry for prey,
    like a fierce lion crouching in cover.

13 Rise up, Lord, confront them, bring them down;
    with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
14 By your hand save me from such people, Lord,
    from those of this world whose reward is in this life.
May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies;
    may their children gorge themselves on it,
    and may there be leftovers for their little ones.

15 As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face;
    when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

Psalm 17

Can you hear me Lord?  My cries and my prayers.

They come from a place of truth

I know you are the only One who clears me from any suspicion

You see what is right, because you probe my heart.

You examine my motives day and night and test me.

People try to sway me this way and that, I keep myself from the violent,

Doing my best to follow Your commands.

I have walked straight and I have not stumbled from Your path.

I call on You, Lord because You answer me.

You turn Your ear to me and hear me when I pray.

Show me the wonders of Your great love.  A love so great it brought Salvation to all.

You are my refuge – My place of safety.

Lord I am so thankful that I am the apple of Your eye and You hide me in the shadow of your wing.

I know there are wicked people led by the  wicked one

Who are out to surround me, destroy me and throw me down.

They circle like a lion circling his prey.

I pray for  them – that You will do a work in their callous hearts.

You rise up, Lord confronting them.

I thank You, that You are the One who saves me from them.

I do not want to be a woman who wants her rewards in this life, that I become full and lazy.

I will have my reward one day- the day I open my eyes and see You face to face.  – Amen

Mary’s Home ~ A Home with the Heart of God

We are going to take a glimpse into the home of Mary, the Mother of John Mark.  Mark as we know him, the Mark who wrote the Gospel of Mark.  Not only is Mary a women who used her home and resources to bless others.  She raised a son who followed Jesus, who led by the Holy Spirit, wrote about Jesus, we still read his words today in the Gospel of Mark.   I would wager that Mary was not only a great hostess, but a great mother as well.
