Courageous Creative

I have found this to be true,  I am happier when I am creating, even when it is something small.   Some of us who are not as artistic as others, raising both hands high, we find creating more of a struggle.

The truth is there are many ways to create, from painting and writing, to cooking and baking,  gardening, photography, graphic design, and dancing, the list goes on and on.

This year I have been pursuing new ways to create.  I have found a love for spoken word poetry.  I have been introduced to beautiful liturgical dance and I actually felt graceful. I’m sure I did not look graceful, but I was convinced I was! God can be glorified in so many ways as we create to honor Him.

Then I stumbled upon this sweet little book, Courageous Creative: A 31-Day Interactive Devotional, written by Jenny Randle.  I am having so much fun trying all kinds of courageous and creative things.  It has honestly been just the lift that I needed.

This photo is from the challenge from Day 3, framing a photo in a unique way.
Bike Ride

I took this while on my bike ride the other evening, peaking out from the bushes over the lake.  I love the close foliage of the bushes and then the lone tree in the distance, flaming red, like a burning bush.

Day 4, record yourself reciting a monologue, which was right up my alley.

Here I recorded a spoken word poem that I wrote about the Woman at the Well.  It is raw and unedited, but so fun with no pressure to be perfect.  Have a listen to Thirsty

I am having so much fun with this devotional, and I notice that my wheels are turning in new, fun and creative ways.

If you re in a dry spell, grab a copy of Jenny’s devotional and start creating!

Courageous Women of the Bible

If you know me at all you know I love to study the women of the Bible.  This always reminds me how grateful I am to live in the 21st Century.  The courage that it took to be a woman in Biblical times is immeasurable to say the least.

Yet these women who were often thought of as property not people,  powered through. They pushed and pressed after their God, our God. Some of these women experienced Jesus face to face, I can only imagine what that must have been like.

LaTan Roland Murphy succeeds beautifully as she brings these women and their stories alive, afresh and anew.    Her account of these ancient and courageous women is rich and deep, and their stories are still teaching us today.

I alway love to be left with a personal challenge and Latan does not disappoint, she sets us on a quest, a quest for courage, a quest to overcome, as we pursue after our God and His purpose for our lives.

I’m thrilled to be giving a copy of Courageous Women of the Bible away.  Be sure to like this post here on WordPress, or on my Facebook Page, A Scriptured Heart  or here  on Twitter.  That will place you in the drawing for Tuesday, June 12th!

LIVE, SAVE, SPEND, REPEAT – The Life You Want With the Money You Have

I love books! I also love to give great books away, and this is a GREAT book that digs into an important issue that affects us all, Money.

I have to say this book is packed with great ideas that will lead you to achieve your financial goals.  My favorite part – Monumental Milestones.  So often we don’t achieve our hopes and dreams because we don’t pray, plan or save for them.

Maybe your Monumental Milestone is to pay off your mortgage, attend a conference, start a business or take your family on a much needed vacation.  Kim offers great ideas on how to move forward making your Monumental Milestones a reality.

This book is not about extremes, it focuses on doable ways to create a budget, cut expenses, map out savings and giving plans, as well as a spending plan.   You will learn to use your money as a tool that works for you, rather than you being a slave to it.

One of the best books I have read on finances!

A Pocket Full of Seeds Review and Give Away

If you are are a person who loves to feel encouraged as well as spurred on this daily devotional is for you.

These little devotions are short and to the point, yet packed with ideas that encourage us to put our faith into action.  So often devotionals in today’s culture are more about receiving than giving.  Honestly, it is in our giving, where we will find ourselves filled the most.

Debbie does a wonderful job of opening our eyes to the seed planting ideas that are all around us.

You can find a copy of Debbie’s book here A Pocketful of Seeds.

I’m also giving a copy away here on the blog, just share your favorite Bible verse in the comments here on the blog, on my Facebook page, or Twitter.   I’ll draw a name on Friday, November 10th!

Sorry, but US residents only.

Ever Bloom – A Book Review

Ever Bloom is book that becomes a bouquet of beautiful voices, each with their own fragrance.

As I read through Ever Bloom, the beauty of the written word continued to jump from the pages, as each author’s voice rang through, unique and genuine.

Through each writer we experience the seasons of life and the lessons learned.  From seasons of birth, mothering, caring for aging parents to seasons of loss, death and grief. Through out each piece you will see human weakness, but the the thread of the Lord is steadfast and strong.

Sprinkled through out the book are pieces of poetry, which, in my opinion, added beautiful rays of light.

Ever Bloom will make a wonderful gift for the women in your life!

The Broken Way – A Review

When the chance came along to to have an advanced copy of Ann Voskamp’s new book

The Broken Way – A Daring Path to the Abundant Life

I couldn’t say yes quick enough.

I have been a fan of her honest and thought provoking blog, A Holy Experience for several years now.  I loved her first book, One Thousand Gifts, as well as her book that changed the way I celebrated Advent, The Greatest Gift.

All that to say, I was unprepared for the sacred journey that I would take as I read, The Broken Way.  I am one to zip through a book, yet I found myself reading and re-reading her words slow.  Setting the book down to scrawl out a few thoughts on what I had just read.

As i read  Ann’s words was like pulling up a warm soft blanket on a cold rainy day.  Her words sooth and warm the soul and with that warmth your souls begins to wake, begins to realize that there is more, so much more than broken.  That in the broken there is life, the life that only Christ can give.

One of Ann’s quotes that I have written on my note pad is,

Live Everyday like your soul’s eternal.  Because it is

Here we are eternal broken beings with a hope, a hope of Jesus.  A hope in the abundant life He offers us.

We can have days where we feel less, way less than Christ-like.  Days when we feel our life is far away from the abundance we crave.  Ann lights a candle of hope for the broken, that hope is found in the Givenness.  Givenness, a new word for me, the possibility that we can give, even in our brokenness.  In that giving, reaching and taking the risk to give is where we find the abundance we are all searching for, soul abundance.

Ann invites us into her holy experiences, but they never lead us to herself, always to Christ.

American Women’s Bible

The American Women’s Bible is a perfect mix of faith and history.  If you are a history buff or love to study women who loved God and lived their faith, this Bible is a perfect fit for you.

It walks us through centuries of women from the Women of Early America to the Women of America After September 11, 2001.

Perfectly placed around the full Word of God are biographies of women who lived fearlessly for God. They overcame many obstacles and became women of influence.

I happen to love quotes and was thrilled to see the pages peppered with quotes from these great ladies.  Hearing their words, that are still relevant today, inspire us.

You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
Eleanor Roosevelt 1984-1962

AWB - Pre-Sale Meme[2]

Topical devotions are placed within the pages as well, they speak on many topics such as thankfulness, devotion,  trust and influence.

This Bible takes us on a journey with these great women of faith.  Women who placed their trust in our mighty God and who lived fully for Him.  Their words and stories will encourage a new generation of women to step up, take our place and live our callings.

This Bible goes on sale June 7, 2016, but you can pre-order at one of my favorite places

Book Review- Transforming Together

It is rare when I finish and close a book that I find myself opening it for another read.  That is exactly the case with this book –

As I prepare to step into Women’s Ministry at my church, I have been praying and planning as to how to create a culture of mentoring within the women.

The need is so great.  We are called to come alongside one another on our journey to become more and more like Jesus.  The Lord has amazingly placed Godly women in my life that have  prayed, taught, encouraged and held me accountable.  Their impact in my life – huge.  I am forever grateful.

This verse says it all –

So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

As my relationship with Jesus has grown, I often find myself on the other side of a coffee cup doing the same for other women.  Bringing hope, building up so that no one is left behind.  The bonus, it brings me great joy.

In Transforming Together Ele Parrott comes at this topic in such a beautiful and straight forward way.  We are not leading the women we mentor to ourselves, but to Jesus.  That in and of itself, is so freeing.

We have a faithful Guide, Holy Spirit.  He will guide us as we listen, as we pray and search scripture together.

The result.  We Transform Together.
