This Psalm comes from a very different voice. It is almost as if David is praying for us, the readers. Several commentaries state that David is praying for himself and the coming Kings of Israel.
I feel that includes us, since we are joint heirs with Christ and He is the King of Kings.
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Romans 8: 16-18
Psalm 20
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
1 May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.
4 May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the Lord grant all your requests.
6 Now this I know:
The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king!
Answer us when we call!
David’s Prayer over you –
May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.
May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.
May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the Lord grant all your requests. – Amen
Your Prayer –
Lord – I know this…
You give victory to your anointed.
You hear and answer me from your heavenly sanctuary
In Your right hand is victorious power
Some trust in the things of this world.
I choose to place my trust in You
Those who trust in the things of this world will fall.
I will rise up and stand firm.
Lord I ask for victories in my life.
You are the King who hears me when I call – Amen
