Psalm 1 NLT
1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
4 But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. 5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. 6 For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
Oh Lord – I want to have joy in my life. The kind that bubbles up and out of me.
Help me to not take advice from wicked or dishonest people.
Remind me not to spend my time getting caught up in conversation with those who have no shame in their sin, or who mock, make fun of or tear down others.
When I open up your Book and read your Word, give me understanding as I think about it, letting it roll around in my heart and my mind. Help me to never grow tired of reading it and applying it to my life.
I want to be like a beautiful tree, standing tall, leaves waving, stretching up and pointing to you. I know I must have strong roots, which comes when I spend time soaking in your presence. This is the only way I will produce good things for me and all of those who come in and out of my life.
Keep me strong and well-watered, Lord. That my leaves will not wither and fall. In your strength I will prosper in everything I do, I believe that.
I am reminded that there are wicked people, each day as I hear and read the daily news. I hear of the persecution of your people, how can you let these terrible things happen?
Then you remind me that the wicked will be scattered by the wind like dry grass and all will stand before you, giving account for that they have done.
You do watch over your children, every step, even though we may not understand. Help me not to slip and fall into the path that would lead me to destruction. – Amen and Amen
