Jesus is Calling

A look into Isaiah 49

Our small group is studying this chapter over the next few weeks.  Reading, meditating and blogging my way through….

Jesus is Calling

 49 Listen to me, you islands;

    hear this, you distant nations:

Do you hear Him?  He is calling! To all people, all nations!

Before I was born the Lord called me;
    from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.

This week I was with expecting mamas, new mamas and babies.  There is just something about the miracle of life.  Something about a mama’s tummy rolling with the life of a babe.

Just as the Lord is forming these precious ones at this very moment, He formed Jesus in the same way.  He called His Son’s name before He was even born, as he fluttered to life in His mother’s womb.

 Jesus ~ Jehovah Saves!

2 He made my mouth like a sharpened sword,

Oh yes a sharpened sword indeed.   Jesus the very Word of God..

 in the shadow of his hand he hid me;
he made me into a polished arrow
    and concealed me in his quiver.

The Lord held Jesus close.  He molded and shaped Him into the man, the Savior.   He would be a sharp arrow that would hit His mark, on the Cross, Defeating sin and death.  He would bring redemption to a lost and dying  world.

3 He said to me, “You are my servant,
    Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.”

Jesus was a King, who came as a servant.  The glory of the Lord was on display from His birth, to His death and finally His resurrection.

But I said, “I have labored in vain;
    I have spent my strength for nothing at all.

Why is Jesus feeling that He has labored in vain?  Maybe, just maybe, He is thinking of those who have thrown His gift aside.  His thoughts go to those who have rejected Him, who have tried to make His sacrifice seem small.

Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand,
    and my reward is with my God.”

No truer words.  His reward does not lie in the hand of mere men, but in the Hand of God.  A true servant obeys His Master and finds His reward, his future, his gift in His Master.

Let’s do our part, let’s tell the World – that Jesus would not labor in vain.
