I have been teaching the story of Ruth over the past few weeks… the words from Naomi to Ruth ring in my ears. Then she said, Sit still, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out; for the man will not rest until he finishes the matter today.
Ruth, a widow in dire straits, is waiting on a big decision that will set the course of her future.
She had done everything she could physically do. Followed Naomi’s instructions to the letter, as strange as they were. She trusted that Naomi knew what was best. Ruth was obedient.
Would her Kinsman Redeemer come through for her? All she could do now was “Sit Still’ and wait.
Ruth’s Kinsman Redeemer moved on her behalf and the deal for her life was sealed. Her waiting was over.
Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” So he took off his sandal. And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife. Ruth 4:8-10
Just as Ruth’s Kinsman Redeemer came through for her, our Kinsman Redeemer, Jesus, came through for us on the Cross when He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30 the deal was sealed, the choice is ours.
Life after we choose Jesus as our Savior our Kinsman Redeemer will still have its pain, hurt and uncertainty. We can count on that. There will be times when we have been obedient to God’s Word, we have done all we can do and it is time to Sit Still and Sit Quiet. That is not an easy feat. When I am nervous or upset I flutter all around, sitting still is almost impossible.
He whispers to us…Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10. He has the whole earth, including us – covered. We can trust Him, as we sit still and sit quiet.
